Copper Bones, Triple Stones

Finally finished my piece for The Goonies entitled Copper Bones, Triple Stones. When Mikey, Data, Mouth and Chunk go on an adventure to find the buried treasure of One-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate, they run into all kinds of trouble. I chose this scene from The Goonies because it is just as the adventure begins while on the run from the Fratelli brothers. The boys head to the coast and stumble upon an abandoned seaside restaurant that seems to match coordinates set by the map and a Spanish Doubloon, unaware that the Fratellis, a family of criminals, are using the restaurant as their hideout. One of the key props in The Goonies was this Spanish Doubloon. According to legend, One-Eyed Willy had his own currency cast for use amongst his men. One of his coins was drilled with odd shaped holes as a clue to help lead to his horde of hidden treasure.

ギターウルフ

"There’s a wallet on my ass, with a, Rock ‘n’ Roll License!!!" -Seiji: Guitar Wolf

Guitar Wolf is a Japanese garage punk power trio founded in Nagasaki, Nagasaki in 1987. The band is known for songs with piercing vocals and an extremely loud style of noise-influenced punk which emphasizes heavy distortion and feedback. They coined the phrase "jet rock 'n' roll", which they also use to describe their musical style — an energetic cross between the Ramones, rockabilly, 77 punk, and garage rock.

I had the privilege of meeting up with the Wolves last night after their sold out show in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theater. It was amazing to talk with them about their experiences on the road for this last leg of the tour in the US finally wrapping up the next night in San Francisco. I've been listening to Guitar Wolf for years now and had made some posters of them. They loved the art and were excited to see all of the details; especially on their tattoos.

I wanted to give them all their own individual logos as well because each of them have distinct songs that they really stand out on.
Seiji (Guitar Wolf) has the Machine-gun Guitar (マシンガンギター)
U.G. (Bass Wolf) is the vocalist on the song Jet13 (ジェット13)
Toru (Drum Wolf) is the Tokyo Zombie (東京ゾンビ)

Enjoy!

Sylmar Goat Hoser..

The story starts with disc golf. My friend Joe got me into the sport and we have been playing every chance we get. California has a wide range of different courses to choose from with a variety of terrains and scenery. One course in particular though has continued to baffle me. The Sylmar Disc Golf Course at Veterans Memorial Park in Sylmar, California not only feature a moderately hilly & wooded course, but it also has amazing wildlife, including a Goat Hoser that has his own igloo. If you think you just read that wrong, read it again. Facts about the Goat Hoser:

1. He is a Goat
2. He owns an igloo
3. He doesn't take any crap
4. Don't throw your disc over his fence because what's on his side, stays on his side
5. (Most importantly) Goat Hoser hates Hoagies. Bri-guy tried to give him one once; it only ticked him off and was discarded at the entrance of the igloo.

I couldn't think of a better way to honor this Goat Hoser other than making him his own Disc Golf Disc. Submitted for your approval is an illustration of the infamous Goat Hoser atop of his iconic igloo. Perhaps he will like it enough to let us print his image on some discs and play on the course. Enjoy!

Big Trouble in Little China (1986)

"You belong to Ching Dai. I must sacrifice you..."

This poster for me has been such a long and rewarding process. Number 2 in my cult classics poster series, I present John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China. Kurt Russell stars as Jack Burton, a big-talking, wisecracking truck driver who’s suddenly hurled into a wild adventure even he could never invent. At the root of it all is Lo Pan (JAMES HONG), a 2,000 year old evil magician who rules an empire of spirits beneath San Francisco’s Chinatown. Doomed to a fleshless existence, he can only be saved by a green-eyed Asian beauty. When the fiance (SUZEE PAI) of Jack’s friend (DENNIS DUN) is kidnapped by Lo Pan’s minions, Jack goes to the rescue. He finds himself dodging demons, grappling with goblins and facing baffling terrors like the Room of the Upside-Down Hell as he battles his way through the labyrinth of Lo Pan’s dark domain.
This piece focuses on the scene in which Lo Pan is being wed to both Miao Yin and Gracie Law; two girls with green eyes that he must sacrifice to Ching Dai, an ultra powerful black magic demon that can grant Lo Pan with eternal life. Will he succeed?? Will Jack Burton save the girls in time??
